Position Summary
The Behavioral Health Biller & Administrative Assistant is responsible for supporting the daily administrative and billing operations of a behavioral health billing company. This position ensures accurate claim submission, payment posting, insurance verification, authorization tracking, and compliance with payer and regulatory requirements while also providing front office and administrative support to staff.
The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, professional, and knowledgeable in behavioral health billing processes, including Medicaid and commercial insurance requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Behavioral Health Billing Responsibilities
Submit electronic claims for behavioral health services in a timely and accurate manner.
Verify client insurance eligibility and benefits prior to services.
Review documentation for billing compliance and accuracy.
Monitor claim status, denials, rejections, and unpaid claims.
Research and resolve billing discrepancies and insurance issues.
Post insurance accurately into the electronic health record (EHR) and billing systems.
Communicate with insurance companies regarding claim corrections and payment issues.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA, Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial insurance regulations.
Assist with audits, reporting, and credentialing-related documentation as requested.
Administrative Assistant Responsibilities
Maintain client files and ensure documentation is complete and organized.
Support management with administrative tasks.
Maintain confidentiality of all client and agency information.
Qualifications
Minimum of 1–2 years of medical or behavioral health billing experience preferred.
Knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10, and behavioral health billing practices preferred.
Experience working with Medicaid managed care organizations and commercial insurance plans preferred.
Experience with electronic health records (EHR) and billing software.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to multitask and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in behavioral health, substance use treatment, or intensive outpatient programs (IOP).
Familiarity with authorizations, and insurance audits.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting and computer use.
Ability to communicate effectively in person and by telephone.
